The Marines have used this new led lighting for years. Some are questioning if led lamps, which use the same technology as led Marine lights, really are as safe as they are advertised as being. True, led Marine lights may burn at a lower temperature, meaning they may not cause as many electrical fires. But are led Marine lights or led lamps really safe?
The same technology used in led Marine lights is in led lamps While these solar-powered led Marine lights may be deemed safe, new studies are showing that led lamps aren't if used indoors. A new study has shown that for some Indian families, these white light led lamps are anything but a beacon of hope. These led lamps, which use the same technology as led Marine lights, may be fatal when used indoors. Though some in rural India had professed the lamps had brought new life to the area, the Garmeen Surya Bijila Foundation, a Bombay-based non-governmental organization, is suggesting otherwise. This leads to questions on whether led Marine lights are safe as well, since led lamps use the same technology.
USA led Marine lights are cheap, but Indian led lamps are cost-prohibitive Led Marine lights may not seem to cost much to Americans. However for those in a third-world country like India, the cost of $55 for a led lamp is still too high. Most families still cannot afford the $55 led lamp that runs off of solar energy. To make costs more affordable, a factory to manufacture the lamps needs to be built in India. This would mean that the lamps that use the same led Marine lights technology could be made more cheaply. Instead of $55 per family, the cost would be $22 per family. However for now, this dream is a misty notion because funds are not available to build a factory. And for now, those relying on this led Marine lights technology must contend with current prices.
Besides technology led Marine lights use, there are other lighting options Though they may not be as cost efficient, there are other options besides using solar power. This is the same solar power used by led Marine lights in the U.S. Kerosene lamps instead of solar lamps may be used. But kerosene fuel is costly and the lamps pose a fire hazard. According to the religious magazine, 1.5 billion people use kerosene to light their homes. By replacing kerosene with these led lamps similar to led Marine lights, it saves families money and is better for controlling air pollution. It is estimated that air pollution alone causes at least 1.5 million deaths annually in this Indian country. Even though the solar-powered led lamps may produce 200 times more light than kerosene, many families are still using kerosene because they cannot afford these led lamps, similar to the led Marine lights in use in the U.S. But, kerosene is expensive for families as well. Costing 4 percent of a rural Indian families' budget, kerosene is more expensive. Light from a kerosene lamp isn't nearly as bright, nor does kerosene fuel burn as long to provide the light a led lamp does.
